Process
We follow the traditional way of dividing our design process in to 4 main stages;
Concept Design, Design Development, Detailed Design and Construction based on RIBA design stages 1 to 6 and following sign offs at each stage in liaison with the client and the design team. This briefly includes:
CONCEPT DESIGN (RIBA Stages 1-2):
General brief and client’s requirements are discussed in terms of quality, sustainability, program, finance, scope of services etc; this helps to generate a lighting strategy. Attending inspection and workshop meetings with the client, other design team parties, local authorities, etc. to further define the lighting design brief and program. A general sustainability strategy is developed and any additional requirement is inspected if necessary (BREAM, LEEDS Certification etc.). We begin our design process with a survey of the space. A conceptual lighting design proposal is proposed with the use of models, sketches, computer generated images to explore both daylight (if required) and architectural lighting solutions. A report which describes our design proposals with sketch details and layouts is produced, including suggested light sources, materials, recommended energy criteria and light levels.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT (RIBA Stage 3):
Co-ordinated and updated proposals to include; schematic drawings, technical information and choice of light sources. Lighting calculations are produced and luminaire and lighting control systems are suggested. Bespoke fittings are designed if required. Specification document are supplied to relevant contractors, engineering and construction personnel for detailing and preparation for tender issue. Prototypes and samples to be reviewed, mock-ups to be organized as required.
DETAILED DESIGN (RIBA Stage 4):
Co-ordinated design documentation to include all technical information supplied for final issue to contractors and specialist subcontractor. Includes, plans , sections detailed drawings and full fittings and control specification. Detailed information of any bespoke fitting or installation. Further mock ups co-ordinated as required. Assistance to other parties for compliance with any regulation or certification.
CONSTRUCTION (RIBA Stages 5-6):
Off site and on-site meeting and management between contractor, service engineers and electrical contractors, until project completion. Supervision of installation & coordination. We will oversee the final focus of fittings and the programming of lighting control systems and scene settings thus ensuring the quality of the lighting installation.
